Children’s Residential Respite

The Association provides planned, residential respite in four locations in the metropolitan area for children between the ages of 6 and 18 years. This respite is available on weekends and during school holidays. There are three or four children in each respite home at any one time, along with two experienced staff members.

The aim of this respite is to provide families with a break while at the same time providing a fun time for the child with autism.

Who is Eligible?

Children between the ages of 6 and 18 years who have a formal and recognised diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. This is a funded service so there is no requirement for individualised funding. There is, however, a small cost to families to cover the cost of food for the child over the weekend.

Activities provided may include:

  • Visits to the beach
  • Picnics in the park
  • Long and relaxing drives
  • Swimming at the local pool
  • Going to the movies
  • Going to bowling
  • Chilling out in the home watching DVD’s or playing games
  • Trampolining
