National Initiatives
The Autism Association have been involved in setting up a range of national partnerships, forming part of the Commonwealth Government's initiatives funded under the Helping Children with Autism Package. These national partnerships have resulted in some exciting developments to provide additional services and support for families in Western Australia.
Early Days Parent Workshops
These workshops are an initiative of the Australian Government Helping Children with Autism (HCWA) package and workshop content and materials were developed by Parenting Research Centre.
The Autism Association facilitates free one day Early Days Workshops across Western Australia. These workshops are an informative, practical resource for parents of children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The workshops are specifically designed for mothers, fathers and other family carers who are in the “early days” of their journey through the diagnostic process; and for those recently diagnosed with an ASD. The workshops are targeted at parents of children aged 2 to 6 years with ASD. All workshops are free with morning tea and a light lunch provided.
The workshops provide up-to-date information about Autism Spectrum Disorders; ways to promote your child's learning and development, types of early intervention, making decisions about intervention for your child and developing skills to manage your child’s difficult behaviour.

Positive Partnerships
This is a national training program aimed at improving the educational outcomes for school aged children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Staff from the Autism Association form part of the national team and are involved in the development of materials and the delivery of workshops in metropolitan and regional areas of Western Australia. This program is funded through The Positive Partnerships: supporting school aged students on the Autism spectrum initiative.
Professional development for teachers and other school staff who are working with students with ASD is available online and in face-to-face workshops. We encourage you to discuss these options with your child's teacher.
Free workshops and information sessions for parents and carers of school aged children with ASD are available now. To register your interest go to:www.autismtraining.com.au
