USING VISUALS: Because people with Autism tend to be visual learners, developing and using appropriate visual supports can assist in the development of communication skills and independence, as well as assist in alleviating challenging behaviour, which is often the result of a communication “breakdown”. This seminar presents basic information on how communication is impacted by Autism. This will be followed by information on selecting, developing and implementing a range of visual supports. Examples across the age span (Early Childhood - Adult) will be discussed. INTENDED PARTICIPANTS: Families, carers, educators, allied health professionals, support staff and others living with or working with a person with Autism OTHER:
PARKING: Parking vouchers will be available at the venue on the day of the seminar. View details and book » |

DEVELOPING PLAY SKILLS: All children learn through play. Through play they learn to communicate, to move, to understand, to imagine and to socialise. For children with Autism, developing these skills can be even more difficult due to the impact of difficulties in the areas of communication, social relating and repetitive behaviour or restricted interests (The Triad of Impairment). This seminar will explore the typical stages of play development and how play skills develop through different phases or types of play. It will also present ideas on how to support development through these stages and types of play. INTENDED PARTICIPANTS: Parents, carers, allied health professionals, education professionals and child care workers. OTHER:
