An Overview Dr Prizant has received many honours in his career, including the Princeton University-Eden Foundation fellowship award for career contributions in developing services for persons with Autism (2005); Fellowship in the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association; and the Massachusetts Speech-Language-Hearing Association Clinical Achievement Award (on two occasions). He is a co-author/editor of the book Autism Spectrum Disorders: A Transactional Developmental Perspective (2000), and has published numerous articles on wide-ranging aspects of Autism. This interactive workshop is perfect for parents and/or professionals who have previously attended the PECS Basic Training and want to address specific PECS implementation challenges and expand the use of PECS across a wide range of activities and settings. Pyramid’s skilled instructor will lead group discussions and video analyses regarding practical and resourceful solutions, and innovative problem solving strategies for complex PECS implementation situations. Presented by Dr Chris Chapparo PhD, DipOT The Autism Association of Western Australia In this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to apply information about sensory processing to particular difficulties of sensory regulation, sensory discrimination, self organisation, and behaviour to children with Autism. Emphasis will be on assessment and intervention for young children from preschool through to primary school age. Intervention approaches that will be addressed include those that aim to build children’s processing capacity to enhance functional outcomes as well as those that aim to address sensory issues in the environment. About the Presenter: Dr Chris Chapparo PhD, DipOT is a senior lecturer in the School of Occupation and Leisure Sciences at the University of Sydney. She is internationally recognised for her contribution to occupational therapy teachings and research and has received many awards for her work. Her interests are in cognitive, management of sensory / motor problems in children and adults as well as She is the co-author with Judy Ranka BSc (OT) MA, of Occupational Performance Model (Australia). KEY AIMS Following this one-day seminar you will:
FURTHER INFORMATION Participants will be assisted to make the connection between theory and practice to enhance their ability to work with children with Autism. This seminar promotes self-reflection and consideration of one’s own communication style and behaviours while working with children with Autism. The seminar will be presented using a combination of direct instruction, small group work and video presentation.
