KEY AIMS

Following this one-day seminar you will:

  • Have an increased awareness of the ways that Autism presents
  • Have an increased awareness of the range of characteristics within the Autism Spectrum
  • Have an increased ability to identify the communication, socialization and behavioural difficulties in your students with Autism
  • Have greater understanding of the use of visual supports
  • Have greater understanding of types of play and developing play skills in children with Autism
  • Be more informed on developing strategies to support sensory sensitivities
  • Be more informed on Positive Behaviour Support strategies appropriate for the Primary School environment

FURTHER INFORMATION

Participants will be assisted to make the connection between theory and practice to enhance their ability to work with children with Autism. This seminar promotes self-reflection and consideration of one’s own communication style and behaviours while working with children with Autism. The seminar will be presented using a combination of direct instruction, small group work and video presentation.

INTENDED PARTICIPANTS:

Primary School teachers; Special Needs teachers: Learning Support teachers, Education Assistants and School Leaders.

OTHER:

  • Morning tea and light lunch included
  • Registrations from 8:30am - 9:15am
  • Seminars will commence at 9:30am sharp and finish at 3:30pm
  • Child Care is NOT provided

FREE WEBINARS FOR FAMILIES IN REGIONAL WESTERN AUSTRALIA

Living in a regional area does not mean you are isolated from the services that the Autism Association of Western Australia has to offer.

Once a month our qualified clinicians will run hour long webinars covering a variety of topics related to raising your child with Autism. 

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The term webinar is short for Web-based Seminar, a presentation that is transmitted over the Web.  Presenters speak over a telephone line, while pointing out information being presented on the computer screen.  Families can watch the webinar from their own computer over the internet* and use their telephone to listen to the presenter at the same time.

Webinars may involve time for Q&A and resources available to download and use at home.

Toilet training for children with Autism

KEY AIMS

Following this one-hour webinar you will:

  • Gain an understanding of typical development for toilet training and the stages required to learn how to toilet independently
  • Be able to establish a plan of where to start your child’s toilet training
  • Learn about the different autism specific strategies for toilet training
  • Learn to problem solve different toileting issues

FURTHER INFORMATION

Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions during the webinar, but please note there is only a small amount of time allocated to answering questions.  Contact details of the presenter will be provided at the end of the webinar if you require further information.  In some instances, participants may be emailed information prior to the day to download and read in preparation for the webinar.

A copy of the webinar will be sent to you once the webinar has been completed, along with any links to information from the presenter.

INTENDED PARTICIPANTS:

Families of children with a diagnosis of an Autism Spectrum Disorder, living in a regional area of Western Australia. (Kimberley, Pilbara, Gascoyne, Mid-West, Goldfields-Esperance, Great Southern, Wheatbelt or South West).
