FREE WEBINARS FOR FAMILIES IN REGIONAL WESTERN AUSTRALIA

Living in a regional area does not mean you are isolated from the services that the Autism Association of Western Australia has to offer.

Once a month our qualified clinicians will run hour long webinars covering a variety of topics related to raising your child with Autism.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The term webinar is short for Web-based Seminar, a presentation that is transmitted over the Web.  Presenters speak over a telephone line, while pointing out information being presented on the computer screen.  Families can watch the webinar from their own computer over the internet* and use their telephone to listen to the presenter at the same time.

Webinars may involve time for Q&A and resources available to download and use at home.

Webinars are run via Redback Conferencing technology www.redbackconferencing.com.au

Positive behaviour support: early years and primary school

KEY AIMS

Following this one-hour webinar you will:

  • Understand the term Positive Behaviour Support and what it means for a child with Autism
  • Be able to identify the primary causes of challenging behaviours and strategies to prevent them from occurring
  • Learn how to draw on your child’s strengths and provide appropriate rewards for their behaviour

FURTHER INFORMATION

Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions during the webinar, but please note there is only a small amount of time allocated to answering questions.  Contact details of the presenter will be provided at the end of the webinar if you require further information.  In some instances, participants may be emailed information prior to the day to download and read in preparation for the webinar.

A copy of the webinar will be sent to you once the webinar has been completed, along with any links to information from the presenter.

INTENDED PARTICIPANTS:

Families of children with a diagnosis of an Autism Spectrum Disorder, living in a regional area of Western Australia. (Kimberley, Pilbara, Gascoyne, Mid-West, Goldfields-Esperance, Great Southern, Wheatbelt or South West).

  • Windows: XP/2000/Vista or Mac: OS X/LINUX/UNIX
  • Broadband internet connection
  • Flash player installed on computer
  • Telephone connection

A two-day Masterclass  for Educators, Clinicians, Carers and Family Members to enhance support, education and community participation.

Themes:

  • Supporting people with autism in everyday settings
  • Enabling  successful inclusion of  Students with Autism
  • Dealing with difficult behaviour

An Overview
Dr Barry Prizant is a world renowned academic and practitioner in the field of Autism with more than 40 years experience as a clinician, a consultant, researcher and program consultant. 

Dr Prizant has received many honours in his career, including the Princeton University-Eden Foundation fellowship award for career contributions in developing services for persons with Autism (2005); Fellowship in the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association; and the Massachusetts Speech-Language-Hearing Association Clinical Achievement Award (on two occasions). He is a co-author/editor of the book Autism Spectrum Disorders: A Transactional Developmental Perspective (2000), and has published
numerous articles on wide-ranging aspects of Autism.

To participate in  this seminal MASTERCLASS with Dr Barry Prizant,  hosted by the Autism Association of Western Australia, a leader in the field of specialist  services to people with Autism and their families.

Those with a  professional or personal interest in achieving  better outcomes for individuals with an Autism Spectrum Disorder e.g. Teachers, School Principals, Clinicians,  Therapists, Parents, Health Professionals, Carers, Academics and Service Providers. All will benefit from participation in this outstanding two day event.

Participants Will Learn
Participants of this two-day workshop will learn practical, respectful and innovative ways to best support individuals with an Autism Spectrum Disorder.  This will include enhancing the individual’s ability to learn in a wide range of settings;  creating the conditions for inclusion;  improving everyday participation;  as well as understanding and preventing  “problem behaviours”. . This important Masterclass will further  explore ways to design inclusive learning environments and strategies  to enhance  social participation in education and daily living  at home, and in the community.

Cost

Students: Must be full time student & provide photocopy of student card with registration.
Members:  Must be up to date financial members of the Autism Association of Western Australia.
