Support Workers

Due to further expansion of our services and a number of new programs in development, we are seeking expressions of interest for Support Workers.


The Autism Association of Western Australia is one of Australia’s largest Autism specific service providers. The Association provides services to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families from early intervention programs, family support through to employment services, community options, residential and respite services and independent living options.

We are seeking expressions of interest for Support Workers for the following areas.

Group homes are provided for adults who require full time support throughout the metropolitan area.  Each group
home has its own service plan based on the needs of the residents. In addition, each person in the group home
has their own individual program plan to ensure their personal needs and aspirations are met. 

Job Summary:

  • Provide support to people with Autism in their own home (this includes personal care/ cleaning/ recreational
    and emotional support)
  • Medication administration
  • Household duties
  • Administration
  • Other duties as directed by the Coordinator

Employment Conditions:

  • 3 week rolling roster so that for every 2.5 days worked you get 2.5 days off(including overnights) with
    9 days off at the end of the 3 weeks.
  • 6 weeks paid annual leave per year
  • Salary package of over $65,000 including salary sacrificing (permanent positions)

The “Family Support & Respite” program assists individuals with Autism to live in a home of their own, or
provides individualised support to families who have a son or daughter with Autism living in the family home.
Assistance is provided in a variety of different ways to meet the specific needs of each family.

An Alternative to Employment Program offers day-time activities that are designed to assist people with
Autism Spectrum disorder to maintain and develop their skills.  All activities are community based and
involve the use of community resources available to the general public. The program provides to each
individual a balance of opportunities for skill development and community based enjoyable activities
suited to their needs.

Job Summary:

  • To support and assist adults with Autism to access the community.
  • Coordinate transportation arrangements to and from activities.
  • Support Clients to participate fully in activities.
  • Advocate for development of integrated relations with the wider community.
  • Report administration with regards to support plans.

Employment is a leading Government funded specialist employment support program for job seekers with
Autism. We currently assist 162 people with autism in job search & open employment, including a number
of enclaves with host employers throughout the metropolitan area.

Job Summary:

  • Modelling appropriate workplace behaviour and work ethic.
  • Assisting clients to learn the tasks required for the job
  • Liaising between the client and the employer to promote positive outcomes.
  • Breaking down complex tasks to cater for individuals own learning style
  • Using initiative to make suggestions on how a workplace or task may be modified to better cater
    for the clients skills if required.
  • Provide transport assistance to and from work if required.
  • Assist Employment Coordinators to develop realistic goals for clients.
  • Maintain regular support records.

Desirable Criteria

You must be legally entitled to work in Australia and be willing to obtain a police clearance.  In return we
