Need to know more?

Our Community Inclusion program has been developed to ensure all people with Autism are able to participate in recreational, leisure, and community events. We work with families, individuals with Autism, as well as community organisations and businesses to increase opportunities and inclusion in the community for all.

Our Community Inclusion program supports families and individuals with Autism by:

  • Providing information about accessible programs in the community
  • Facilitating special sensory events
  • Providing resources and information to prepare for visiting community events and organisations

We also work with various community organisations and businesses to:

  • Upskill staff through Autism-specific training and coaching
  • Support in making appropriate accommodations and adaptions to facilitate inclusion and participation in their programs and facilities
  • Provide ongoing consultation, support, resources and information to increase access and inclusion for all

This project is part of the WA State Disability Strategy 2020-2030 and is made possible with the support of the Department of Communities.

You can find out more about this program by clicking on the tabs below. You’ll be able to find resources, social stories, news & events, as well as information regarding how to get involved. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us via Inclusive.Communities@autism.org.au.

Places to Visit in the Community

Thank you to the following inclusive venues, collaborators and partners who are committed to supporting individuals with Autism and their families in the community and providing inclusive environments for all.

Hear from the Community!

Thank you again Autism Association for holding such a fun event. These outings are such a treat for our kids, to be surrounded by understanding, accepting and likeminded people.

We had an absolute blast, the boys loved it! We are so grateful for these events. I posted a few snippets on my Instagram and had so many friends tell us how lucky we are. Thank you again, we cannot wait for the next event!

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to you and everyone who helped organise the Sensitive Santa. We were lucky enough to get a cancellation spot at Cockburn a couple of weekends ago, it was wonderful! My 2 children absolutely loved it. My son, who is Autistic, enjoyed the whole experience without a single meltdown or getting overwhelmed, he was comfortable and even engaged with Santa. I haven’t been able to take him into a shop for quite some time as it has always ended badly. It was just so incredibly nice to enjoy this peaceful moment with my family. So, a huge thank you!

This was a great opportunity for our family to access this activity that we wouldn’t have attempted otherwise.

Knowing staff were knowledgeable and the compassion that they showed, made the event so successful and one that we will look forward to again.

Thank you for organising this for our family! It makes our yearly Santa photo a great experience for our children that otherwise would not cope with the busy shopping centre to have a photo.

In a standard session, I’d be so anxious and on constant high alert waiting for something to go wrong, so we just don’t go to these places. It was so nice to enjoy this type of activity with such incredible hands-on support from everyone there. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

We take our daughter every year and she loves it. We can’t thank you enough for organising this for our kids.

Wonderful sensory Santa session on the weekend! Thanks to everyone involved in making sure that we, and others, had such an amazing time and a super enjoyable experience. We really appreciate it.

Went to the Freo vs Bulldogs game and was also able to obtain a Freo sensory bag for the game. As a parent with a family that loves Freo was awesome to be able to take our beautiful son to the game knowing there was a sensory room should he be overwhelmed. He was able to sit through the game though! Was so proud of him! Love this and it's a great initiative for inclusion and providing a sense of relief for parents when unsure how a child may react on the day!

Thank you to everyone involved who made this happen. It means so much to us to be able to attend with our son and for him to be comfortable.

The best part about the sensory session was having the opportunity for my son to attend Scitech and be comfortable enough to be himself and enjoy it. We are extremely grateful to have this experience.
