A Holiday Therapy Program to Remember for Regional Families

First Steps for Autism Therapy 1:1

“The energy is just so high, and everyone is so excited to be here.” Sarah, Early Childhood Team Leader

We had a wonderful start to 2025 as our Regional Intensive Holiday Therapy Program brought together children, parents and carers from across WA for an action-packed five days of fun, family and friendship.

This year, 17 returning and new families travelled from far and wide – including Albany, Kalgoorlie and even Paraburdoo – to join us for the program, which is developed specifically for regional and remote families.

We welcomed children from both the Early Intervention and School Age programs to our Shenton Park hub, making it a hive of activity!

Participants attended tailored one-on-one therapy sessions where they worked with therapists using balloons, bubbles, block building and more to focus on their goals and skill development. With the addition of group sessions filled with science, songs, stories and sensory time, plus collaborative parent workshops, there was plenty of play and learning along the way for kids and adults alike.

“We have a lot of different supports available – we run parent training, there are a lot more intensive coaching sessions with families, and there are opportunities for observation as well. The therapy supports that we offer are quite unique to a lot of families. They might not have access to social therapy groups in their communities, but we are able to provide that during this week.” Sarah, Early Childhood Team Leader

Through the program, families and their therapists create individualised support plans and leave with the knowledge they need to put their new strategies and skills into place at home.

Sessions also see friendships formed between children and families that continue to grow year after year.

“It’s really beautiful to see the connections that they make.” Caitlin, Therapy Assistant

The week ended with certificates awarded to celebrate the children’s achievements and progress, and it was amazing to look back on how far everybody had come in such a short time.
