Annual Come and Try Session Brings More Families Together Than Ever Before

This year’s Autism in Cricket Come and Try Session saw a record number of families join us at the WACA Ground.
Having grown significantly since its inception, the annual event saw families travel from all over WA to enjoy a morning of fun-filled cricket activities – with 197 sports lovers attending the event.
We were delighted to meet so many new cricket lovers joining us for their first Come and Try Session, as well as welcoming returning families from last season and previous events. Several parents told us this event is the highlight of their child’s year and always the first one to be marked on the family calendar.
Upon arrival, participants were encouraged to enjoy free play and warm-up time on the field. This allowed some time for first-time cricketers to become familiar with the oval and to try batting, bowling and catching. A chill zone with some comfy bean bags to relax in was set up if anyone needed time away from the action and there was even a fun bubble machine station!
Following the welcome from our Come and Try Ambassador Adam Gilchrist, and our group photo, we then broke off into groups to get the activities underway.
Parents were able to take advantage of the spring sunshine to relax, grab a coffee and have a chat to some of our Endorsed Clubs who came to the session. A big thank you to Applecross Cricket Club, Armadale Cricket Club,
Coolbinia West Perth Cricket Club, Joondalup Kincross Cricket Club, Kalamunda Cricket Club, Kardinya Junior Cricket Club, Warnbro Swans Cricket Club, and Wembley Districts Junior Cricket Club, and who joined us on the day and supported families to register for the 2024-25 season. It was also great to welcome Secret Harbour Dockers to their first Come and Try Session.
Take a look at what we got up to on the day in our video and gallery below. In case you missed, you can also see our Come and Try Session in the news. We featured on The West Australian, 7News, 9News and 10News.

Thank you to each family, Endorsed Club, WA Cricket staff, and our 39 volunteers who made it such a fantastic day.
We would also like to thank WA Cricket Foundation for making it possible for us to hold our annual Come and Try Session.
