Suzie’s Art Awards

Suzie Art Award

Suzie loves drawing and creating wonderful pieces of art.

In October, Suzie entered one of her art pieces in the As We Are Art Awards – an annual state-wide art award and exhibition open to all Western Australian artists with intellectual disability (aged 18+).

Suzie volunteered at the exhibition and awards night that was held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre and was joined by her Support Worker Kylie. On the night, Suzie received an award of high commendation, gave a speech during the award presentation, and also sold her painting – a highlight from the evening!

Suzie was also invited to showcase her work at another art exhibition ‘Compassion – Connection through Art’ to celebrate International Day of People with Disability last year. This exhibition was held from the 25th of November to the 10th December at the Vibe Hotel in Subiaco. The City of Subiaco and Mission Australia launched this event in partnership with the aim of building the capacity of local artists with a disability to showcase their work and acknowledge the contribution they make to the community.

And guess what! Suzie was successful in selling another one of her art pieces during the exhibition! Martin Black, co-founder of The Margaret River Chocolate Factory purchased it and was excited to support a part of Suzie’s passion for art and can’t wait to get it up and on display.

Congratulations Suzie. Your passion for art shines through and we are so proud!
