Whilst at first it can feel overwhelming, both to understand Autism and to find answers, help is at hand. Our dedicated team is available to answer any questions you may have and to create a personalised program of support to suit early-stage diagnosis.
What happens next?
There are many useful and well-researched therapy programs available through the Autism Association of Western Australia. These programs can be combined to provide the right level of skill development and support for you and your family.
The first step is to arrange an individual assessment, so the ideal personalised program can be designed for your child. The goal is to identify your child’s learning profile and to select focus areas for skill development, such as attention, communication, behaviour, motor skills and social skills.
A therapist will work closely with you and your family to integrate strategies into family routines, plus day care and school routines, as appropriate. Often, once a child starts in a therapy program, difficult behaviours reduce significantly as skills start to develop. Where there is a need for additional support, this can be arranged in consultation with you.
