Our experienced multidisciplinary therapy team, offer a range of therapy groups throughout the year.

Each group focuses on specific social requirements for participants 18 years and over.


We are currently taking expressions of interest for all our groups, with interested parties being contacted once a group becomes available for them. To register your interest, please read about our groups below and submit an expression of interest for the group which you feel is most suited to you. Upcoming dates and times will be communicated to all interested parties. 
 

Learn how to make and keep friends and develop relationships, with the PEERS® Program!
The Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERS®) is the leading research-based social skills training program for people with social challenges and has a  strong evidence base for use with young adults with Autism.

Who Should Register?

The PEERS® group suits adults, aged 18-30 years who have:

  • An Autism diagnosis
  • Good verbal communication.

When and Where?

  • 5:15pm to 6:45pm every Monday at Autism Association of WA – Shenton Park
  • Commencing on the 10th October 2022, and running until the 6th February 2023
  • Christmas break (last session 19th December 2022 recommencing 9th January 2023) 

Note:

  • Older participants will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • NDIS Funding is required to participate
  • A social mentoring coach (e.g. parent, sibling, support worker) is also required to attend the group with the participant.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination required

Explore how mindfulness can assist with self-awareness and distress tolerance with the aim of promoting relaxation and wellbeing. Participants will be supported by Allied Health professionals to trial a variety of mindfulness techniques adapted for people with Autism over 6 weeks.

Run by experienced employment consultants and allied health therapists, this informative and interactive program will focus on core areas and skills that will support you to become employed:

  • Resume building
  • Job application skills
  • Interview skills
  • Telephone tips
  • Understanding workplace culture
  • Handling workplace feedback
  • Workplace social etiquette
  • Conversation skills

Who Should Register?

This group will suit young adults, aged 16 and over who have:

  • An Autism diagnosis
  • Good verbal communication

When and Where?

  • 5:15pm to 6:45pm every Wednesday at the Autism Association – Subiaco
  • Commencing on the 28th September and running until the 14th December 2022

Note: 

  • NDIS Capacity Building Supports funding is required to attend this group
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination required

Kitchen Masters is an 8 week adult therapy group, where participants learn about safety and hygiene in the kitchen and build upon their practical cooking skills.

Throughout the group, participants develop their communication and social skills through activity based learning and have the opportunity to develop friendships.

Each week, participants cook a simple recipe in a supported environment, and have a chance to share their culinary experiences with others. Participants are supported to develop their organisation and planning skills, and work towards having a party in their last session.

Who Should Register?

Kitchen Masters suits young adults aged 18-35 years who have:

  • An Autism diagnosis 
  • Good verbal communication

When and Where?

  • 5:15pm to 6:45pm every Monday at Willetton Youth Centre
  • Commencing on the 10th October and running until the 28th November 2022

Note:

  • NDIS Capacity Building Supports Funding is required to participate
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination required 
  • Support Workers are welcome to attend
